Place Lagny

Pairing up

Lagny-sur-Marne

28 km east of Paris, at the heart of Marne and Gondoire, Lagny-sur-Marne cultivates the charm of a provincial town, pretty, convivial and dynamic. Its inheritance, its geography and its businesses are most charming.

Medival town, it possesses numerous historical monuments, the Town Hall which stands tall on the site of St. Peter's Abbey, and the abbatial Ville Notre-Dame-des-Ardents Church.

Its panoramic view of fields and forests has inspired writers and painters, earning Lagny-sur-Margne the title of the "city of artists".

Commercial settlement, Lagny-sur-Marne thrives thanks to its downtown businesses and its market, heir to the medieval champagne fairs.

In 1969, the town of Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts signed a friendship pact with the city of Lagny-sur-Marne in France. Since that time, many of our citizens have participated in cultural events thanks to the Association Québec-France’s program which allows students to participate in a work experience on French soil during the summer.

The town of Sainte-Agathe wanted to honour this lengthy friendship by giving the name of Place Lagny to its central gathering place. This communal area which has an incredible view and is situated in the downtown area on the shores of Lac des Sables, seemed deserving of this name.

Saranac Lake

Situated at the heart of the Adirondacks Park in the state of New York, Saranac Lake is paired up with the town of Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts since 2002.

Its landscape, its architecture and the presence of the Saranac River at the center of town reminds us of Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts which, just like its partner, was a place renowned for the treatment of Tuberculosis at the start of the 20th century.
